I used to take pictures, and I used to blog

I used to take pictures, and I used to blog.
not so much lately. though i have kept being creative in other ways... like writing and learning to use art to heal as I pursue a degree in art therapy.
here's my attempt to start blogging again
perhaps i will start taking pictures next ;)

this is a collage i made a few days ago in art therapy methods & techniques class... we were to channel our teenage selves, the trauma and angst from those days in the first half and the other half shows a safe place or where I am now....

THIS NEW YEAR

ok, so its been a while since i've blogged. but it's been an amazing past couple of months. and so far 2010 is a great new year.

Current news:

AH, MOTHERLAND!
I am back at home and doing a residency with _Gaia in Jersey City. The theme of the residency is Ah, Motherland and we are making work that deals with homeland, immigration, and identity with a feminist perspective. My proposed project is titled I Only Reside In My Skin, and I have six weeks to complete a new series of work which will culminate in an exhibit in March. So, I've got work to do!

In addition, I am exhibiting some photos from my last series titled Found In Nature in a gallery in Kansas City. The show is titled the Voice That Reaches you and it will be up until the end of January. This is a group show that includes Central American artists exploring their immigrant/emigrant/migrant experiences in America. are you starting to catch the trend?

I'm still taking photos, now in SF

This here is an example of why I moved into this city, because of its rich art and culture and motivating places like this:

Tenderloin National Forest:

Co-Artistic Directors/Artists Darryl Smith and Laurie Lazer of the luggage store have been working to transform Cohen Alley since 1989 from a place emblazed in a health-hazardous cesspool of bodily fluids and other dumped items, non-supervised open-air chemical experiments and illicit – criminal activities -- to a community commons where people of all ages can gather for public art, performance, experimental art projects. and classes and activities related to this inner city garden which is home to naturally growing vegetation and built organic structures, or just to sit....

These are pictures from this saturday, where Henry and I had the opportunity to show some work. Check out some of my new black & white prints and henry's Time drawings!

burgers on my mind

of course the best burger in town still is... Shake Shack!
for variety, however, and just as delicious - Petey's Burger in Queens:

and for a splurge at a whopping $26, is the burger at Minetta's Tavern. yummm

Finally made it to the darkroom for some black and white fun. What some of you may not know is that i've been working on a personal long term project about memory and identity for some time now and i'm quite satisfied with how its coming along

windows

i have been shooting windows since college when I did a project called "I don't know my neighbors but i know my neighbor's windows". this isn't about a peeping tom thing, it's about the alienation from our own neighbors and the barriers we keep that can be merely glimpsed through windows sometimes

here is my newest one. shot in williamsburg.
